As the manufacturers of fire-rated roofing materials, the cedar shake and shingle industry does not oppose the banning of non fire-rated roofs in high fire hazard areas of the country.

All the industry asks is that lawmakers, officials and members of the media make a clear distinction between today's fire-retardant shakes and shingles and the unrated shakes and shingles of the past. They should not mislead homeowners with untrue statements about pressure-impregnated fire-retardant cedar shakes and shingles. Today's fire-retardant shakes and shingles are a proven fire-safe roofing option.
