Soap and Water Cleanup

Choosing a stain for interior wood surfaces means choosing something that will live in your home’s air.

Every cabinet door you open. Every countertop where you prepare food. Every floor your kids crawl across.

Most wood stains weren’t designed with that reality in mind. They’re often exterior products adapted for indoor use, bringing chemical fumes, high VOCs, and harsh solvent cleanup into the spaces where your family spends the most time.

Weather Boss was formulated differently.

Built around natural tree oils and resins, the interior formula is non-toxic, low VOC, low-odor, and food safe. It bonds with interior wood the same way it does with exterior wood, penetrating deep into the grain rather than sitting on the surface. The difference is that it does it without the chemical tradeoffs that usually come with conventional stains.

The finish brings out the natural grain and character of the wood without leaving a glossy or artificial look. On interior surfaces like trim, doors, and tongue-and-groove, the result is a warm, natural appearance that feels like wood, not a coating.

Original Weather Boss

Non-toxic, low VOC, food safe, and low-odor. Penetrates and bonds permanently with interior wood for lasting protection and natural grain enhancement. Available in Clear, Honey, Natural Brown, Redwood, and more.

The optimum application is three coats: two color coats followed by a final coat of Weather Boss Clear Sealer. Each coat delivers more penetrating oil into the wood grain, and the Clear Sealer locks it all in.

"Finally, a stain that is safe for my dogs to run on. It’s peace of mind knowing there aren't toxic fumes, and the finish is absolutely gorgeous. It makes the cedar glow."

FAQs for Interior Finishes Projects

Yes. Weather Boss is non-toxic, low-VOC, low-odor, and non-flammable. It’s formulated with natural tree oils and resins and contains no harsh chemicals. It’s one of the few wood stains designed to be safe for the indoor spaces where you live and work.

Start by preparing the surface. Clean the wood thoroughly to remove dust, grease, or residue. For new wood, lightly sand the surface to open the grain, then wipe away the dust with a damp rag before applying. If the wood has an existing finish, check that it isn’t peeling or flaking. If it is, sand those areas down to expose fresh wood. If the finish is still intact, Weather Boss can typically be applied directly over it.

For interior applications, brushing or hand-rubbing usually produces the best results. Use a smaller finish brush for trim, doors, and detailed areas where control matters most. On larger surfaces like floors, tongue-and-groove, or wall paneling, a roller or sprayer can help speed up application while maintaining even coverage. Before starting, stir the product thoroughly, mixing from the bottom of the container where the oils and pigments naturally settle.

Apply two color coats, allowing roughly 30 minutes between coats or until the surface is nearly dry to the touch. Applying the second coat while the first is still slightly damp helps the stain penetrate deeper into the wood. Once the color coats are complete, finish with a final coat of Weather Boss Clear Sealer for optimum protection, brushing or wiping away any puddles or runs as you go.

Dry time is fast, typically between 5 and 30 minutes depending on the surface and conditions. Cleanup is simple with soap and water, with no solvents, harsh chemicals, or lingering fumes.

Yes. Weather Boss is food safe once cured. It can be used on countertops, dining tables, cutting boards, and other surfaces that come into direct contact with food. The formula contains no toxic chemicals that could leach into food or drink.

Weather Boss works on cabinets, trim, doors, windows, tongue-and-groove, railings, countertops, furniture, floors, and paneling. It’s compatible with all wood species commonly used in interior construction and finishing.

No. Weather Boss has a low, natural odor. Many customers describe the scent as a mild, pleasant tree-sap smell. It is not the chemical-heavy odor associated with conventional wood stains. There are no harsh solvent fumes.

Most decks are ready for light foot traffic within 24 to 48 hours. Full cure time depends on temperature, humidity, and the number of coats applied. For the first few days, it’s best to avoid dragging heavy furniture across the surface.

Yes. Weather Boss can be applied in temperatures as low as 32°F, which means you can often start your deck project earlier in the season than with most other stains. If temperatures dip below freezing overnight after application, that’s typically fine. Just resume once temperatures rise back above 32°F.

Yes. For smooth interior surfaces, the original Weather Boss formula works well. For rough-hewn beams, reclaimed barn wood, or other interior wood with an open grain structure, Weather Boss XT provides deeper penetration. XT contains 50% more resins and oils and is designed for wood that is rough, aged, or heavily textured.
