The Original Weather Boss Formula:

A natural, non-toxic wood stain made from tree oils and resins that permanently bonds with wood for lasting protection without peeling and flaking.

Best for new and standard wood applications.
The Original Formula is designed for decks, fencing, siding, log homes, interiors, and marine structures where wood is less porous and does not require the deeper saturation of XT.

Highlights:

Non-Toxic, Natural Formula Permanent Wood Bond Won't Peel, Flake, or Fade Superior Weathering Protection Effortless Cleanup

Wood stains that sit on the surface peel, crack, and need to be reapplied every two years. Weather Boss works differently. Its natural tree oils and resins penetrate deep into the wood fiber and form a permanent bond from the inside. The result is protection that lasts decades, not a surface coating you’ll be scraping off next summer.

Wood breathes. Our formula allows moisture to evaporate out of the wood instead of getting trapped, which means it won’t rot from the inside out. And because Weather Boss is non-toxic, non-flammable, and low VOC, you’re not introducing anything harmful to your home, your family, or the ground around your project.

One gallon covers approximately 100 to 250 square feet depending on wood porosity and application method. Apply in temperatures down to 32°F. Allow 24 hours to cure before rain. Weather Boss can be applied to slightly damp (not wet) surfaces on open-grain wood.

Apply it by brush, roller, or spray in temperatures down to 32 degrees. Won’t expire if kept in the sealed container. When you’re done, clean up with soap and water. That’s it.

How to Apply Weather Boss

Step 1: Prepare

Pressure wash the surface (minimum 2,800 psi). Set nails and screws. Replace damaged wood. Sand or scrape if needed to remove old stain and open the grain. Clean dust before applying.

Step 2: Stir

Mix thoroughly before use. Oils and pigments settle at the bottom. Use a bristle brush or pour back and forth between two 5-gallon buckets. Restir if the stain sits for more than 20 minutes.

Step 3: Apply Two Color Coats

Spray, brush, or roll. Flood the surface, let it absorb, then back brush with the grain. Allow approximately 30 minutes between coats or until the surface is nearly dry. Applying the second coat while the first is still slightly damp is ideal for maximum penetration.

Step 4: Apply the Sealer

This is the finishing step. The Clear Sealer adds an additional layer of protective oils and resins over your color coats for optimum protection and durability. It is also what you use for future maintenance recoats.

Step 5: Clean up

Soap and water. That’s it. No solvents. No harsh chemicals. Wipe away any unwanted spills before the product dries.

Why Weather Boss Exists

Weather Boss was created in 1990 to answer a simple question: why should wood protection require toxic chemicals? Thirty-five years later, the answer is the same. It shouldn't. Our formulas use natural tree oils and resins because they work better, last longer, and don’t compromise the health of your family or your land. Now made in Wyoming under new ownership, we’re excited to carry the original mission forward.

What Customers Are Saying

Mark D.★★★★★

"The way this brings out the natural grain is incredible. It doesn't look like a 'coating'—it looks like the wood is just naturally that healthy and vibrant. Best my deck has looked in a decade."

Sarah J.★★★★★

"I was skeptical about an eco-friendly stain actually holding up, but this stuff is the real deal. No harsh chemical smell while applying, and it’s handled three seasons of heavy rain without a hint of fading."

Thomas W.★★★★★

"I’ve been using Weather Boss since my first house in the 90s. I just bought a few more gallons for my new place, and it’s the exact same high quality. I love that I don't have to guess if the formula has been 'cheapened' over time."

Elena R.★★★★★

"Finally, a stain that is safe for my dogs to run on. It’s peace of mind knowing there aren't toxic fumes, and the finish is absolutely gorgeous. It makes the cedar glow."

David P.★★★★★

"Most stains I've tried eventually peel or flake off like old paint. Weather Boss actually soaks in. It’s been years since I applied it and the wood still beads water like I did it yesterday."

Linda K.★★★★★

"I used this on my garden planter boxes because it's non-toxic. Not only are the plants thriving, but the wood looks brand new despite being constantly wet. It's tough as nails."
